St. John of God Church joins you in your joy at the birth of your child. Upon receiving the Sacrament of Baptism, your child is presented to the family of God and the Catholic faith. Baptism is offered to your child with all the spiritual gifts that God has to offer us through the Catholic Church. Baptism opens the door to heaven and fills us with life, faith, and grace. This is the first step of our journey towards eternal life.
La parroquia de San Juan de Dios se alegra del nacimiento de su hijo. Al recibir el Sacramento del Bautismo, su hijo es presentado a la familia de Dios y la fe católica. El bautismo se ofrece a su hijo con todos los dones espirituales que Dios tiene para ofrecernos a través de la iglesia católica. El bautismo nos abre la puerta del cielo y nos llena de vida, fe y gracia. Este es el primer paso de nuestro viaje hacia la vida eterna. -
When do Baptisms Take Place?
Baptisms take place on Saturdays at 12:00 pm. The first and third Saturday of the month, baptisms are in English. Every second and fourth Saturday the baptisms will be in Spanish. We DO NOT have baptisms during HOLY WEEK (the week of the Easter Triduum). The schedule of Baptism is subject to change. If you have a date in mind already, please ask to make sure there are scheduled baptisms on that day.
Cuando son los Bautismos?
Los bautismos se celebran los sábados a las 12:00 p.m. El primer y tercer sábado del mes, los bautizos son en inglés. Cada segundo y cuarto sábado los bautizos serán en español. NO tenemos bautismos durante la SEMANA SANTA (la semana del Triduo Pascual). El horario de los bautismos está sujeto a cambios. Si ya tiene una fecha en mente, solicite asegurarse de que haya bautismos programados para ese día.

Church Offering
It is appropriate to make an offering of $70.00 or more to the church. This is non-refundable. This offering goes directly to the church and is not a gift for any priest or other minister. Your donation is used directly to support the baptismal ministry program at St. John of God Parish.
Ofrenda

It is the responsibility of every Catholic to be actively involved in their parish community. Our infant baptisms are for children 6 years of age and younger. When baptizing infants, there are certain guidelines that we follow:

In marriages where one parent is not Catholic, the non-Catholicparent is encouraged to participate in the program of preparationfor this life giving Sacrament and to be supportive of the Catholicparent in raising their child in the Catholic faith. In the case of single parents, they will need to fill out a specialconsent form where both parents are consenting to the baptismof the child.
En los matrimonios en los que uno de los padres no es católico, se alienta al padre no católico a participar en el programa de preparación para este sacramento que da vida y a apoyar al padre católico en la crianza de sus hijos en la fe católica. En el caso de padres solteros, deberán completar un formulario de consentimiento especial donde ambos padres están dando su consentimiento para el bautismo del niño.For Godparents / Para los padrinos
A godparent is one who lives a life of faith proper to a member of the church and befitting the role of godparent. Their role is to assist the parents (the primary teachers) in leading and helping the child in their walk with God and new spiritual life.
Un padrino es aquel que vive una vida de fe propia de un miembro de la iglesia y acorde con el papel de padrino. Su función es ayudar a los padres (los maestros principales) a guiar y ayudar al niño en su camino con Dios y una nueva vida espiritual.
The requirements to be a Catholic Godparent are as follows: / Los requisitos para ser un padrino católico son los siguientes:- A godparent must be a Roman Catholic. / Un padrino debe ser un católico romano.
- He or she must be at least sixteen years of age, and have received all sacraments of initiation.(Baptism, First Holy Communion and Confirmation). / Él o ella debe tener al menos dieciséis años de edad y haber recibido todos los sacramentos de iniciación (Bautismo, Primera Comunión y Confirmación).
- A baptized member of a Christian church other than the Roman Catholic church may not be a godparent but can serve as a Christian Witness. He or she should be accompanied by a Roman Catholic godparent. / Un miembro bautizado de una iglesia cristiana que no sea la iglesia católica romana no puede ser padrino pero puede atender como testigo cristiano. Él o ella deben estar acompañados por un padrino católico romano.
- If they are married they must be married by the Roman Catholic Church. GOD PARENTS THAT ARE “LIVING IN” WITH A PARTNER OR ARE CIVILLY MARRIED ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO BE GOD PARENTS. / Si están casados, deben estar casados por la Iglesia Católica Romana. LAS PERSONAS QUE ESTÁN VIVIENDO EN UNION LIBRE O QUE ESTÁN CASADOS CIVILMENTE NO SON ELEGIBLES PARA SER PADRINOS.
- A parent of the child to be baptized may not be a godparent to that child. / Un padre del niño a ser bautizado no puede ser padrino de ese niño.
- Godparent(s) must attend a pre-baptismal class before the date of the baptism. / Los padrinos deben asistir a una clase pre-bautismal antes de la fecha del bautismo.
Steps to Follow / Pasos a Seguir
1. Fill out the baptism application and submit the completed form along with the following / Complete la solicitud de bautismo y envíe el formulario completo junto con lo siguiente:- Copy of the child's birth certificate / copia de la acta de nacimiento del niño/a
- Copy of both of the parents I.D. / copia de Identificacion de ambos padres
- If applicable, the Single ParentConsent/Affidavit / Si aplica, declaracion juramentada para padres solteros
- Copies of the godparents Sacrament certificates: / copias de los certificados de sacramentos de los padrinos:
If they are married we only need their: Confirmation and Church Marriage Certificate.
Applications without all of the documents mentioned above will not be accepted.
Si son solteros, necesitamos sus certificados de Bautismo, Primera Comunión y Confirmación. Si estan casados solo necesitamos su: Confirmación y Certificado de Matrimonio de la Iglesia.

2. Set up a meeting with a priest or deacon (for the parents only)
This can be done at the time yousubmit the items from Step 1.

3. Sign up for the Pre-Baptismal Class. This class is for both the parents andthe godparents./ Inscríbete en la Clase Pre-Bautismal. Esta clase es tanto para los padres como para los padrinos.
4. Pay the $70.00 fee (per child) which should be paid at the time you submit the items from step one or at the timeof your meeting with the priest or deacon. / Pague la ofrenda de $70.00 (por niño) que debe pagarse en el momento de enviar los elementos del paso uno o en el momento de su cita con el sacerdote o diácono.Special Cases / Casos especiales
- Single parents must fill out a single parent consent form/affidavit. / Los padres solteros deben completar un formulario / declaración jurada de consentimiento de los padres solteros.
- Relatives who have full guardianship of the child needs to present court mandated document declaring that they have the right to make decisions for welfare of the child. / Los familiares que tienen la tutela completa del niño deben presentar un documento ordenado por el tribunal que declare que tienen derecho a tomar decisiones para el bienestar del niño.
- Parents of adopted children needs to present adoption papers. / Los padres de niños adoptados deben presentar documentos de adopción.
